Limonada de rosas (Roses lemonade)

This is an old, old recipe. A lot of years ago, this was an obliged drink every August 30th – the Santa Rosa de Lima feast. People used to peregrinate to her home town, Quives -now known as Santa Rosa de Quives-, and the lemonade was prepared with blessed roses after the Mass. With this recipe you’ll get enough roses lemonade for 4 people (and yes, it’s a bad photoshop work ;) ).

Ingredients:

  • 1 dozen of roses (only the petals)
  • 1 liter of boiling water
  • Juice of 4 limes
  • Sugar, to one’s taste
  • 1 drop of essence of roses (optional)

Preparation:

Wash, very softly, the petals. Put them in a bowl. Pour immediately the boiling water and cover. Let it settle for an hour, as an infusion.

Filter the water and add the lime juice and the sugar. Pour a drop of essence if you want a stronger rose taste.

This is a good source for my spanish project from what I see. The only thing I was skeptical about was I wasn’t sure if the Roses Lemonade was alcoholic because it looked it, but didn’t say that it was. You just might want to add that.

    ~Thank you,
    Natalie:)
