There’s a traditional way to prepare causa, and we have already seen it. But we also need time for our work schedules, meetings, family and friends. If we can’t find a moment to prepare it in the old way, we can do it in a modern way: using instant mashed potatoes. Follow this recipe and you’ll get Tuna Causa for 4 people.
Preparation:
- 125 g (4.5 oz) of instant mashed potatoes.
- 1 cup of just boiled water
- 2 tablespoons of ground yellow chili/pepper
- 5 tablespoons of lime juice
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 1 can of tuna fillet
- 1/2 cup of mayonnaise
- 2 hard-boiled eggs, cut in slices
- 1 avocado in slices
- Salt
- Pepper
Preparation:
Mix the instant mashed potatoes with the cup of just boiled water. Add the yellow chili/pepper, oil and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper. Knead until get an even dough.
Ok, we already have the causa, strictly speaking (you can prepare the Lima-style causa at this point). Let’s prepare the stuffing.
Mix the tuna with the mayonnaise. Divide the dough up into equal portions; spread one part in a dish and cover with the tuna. Add the egg and avocado, season and cover with the rest of the causa.
Spread mayonnaise. You can decorate it with a sprig of parsley.

Oh my gosh, my aunt (from Lima) used to make this for us when my children were little. It was one of my favorite dishes, and she never taught me to make it or even really told me what it was called.
I cannot wait to make this! Thank you!
This is amazing!!!!!
calling all of my freinds causa for years, LoL I think im gonna try making it this week
my fiance’s mom made this at my baby shower everyone loved it!
hey this is really kool, it is so much work when u have to actually boil the potatoes, peel them and then mash them…thanks for the tip.
I love causas. Making the causa from potatoes is more economical if you have that extra bit of time, but instant mash still has its place there. After mashing the potatoes, I found it too wet/soft/sticky for causa, so I mixed in a couple of handfuls of instant mash powder until I got the perfect consistency for the “dough”. Worked a treat!
My great aunt, she made causa it’s really good and the best! I love Peru’s food better then USA.
I raised in Lima and I missed those food when I was in USA since when I was 10 argh! I need make one for myself try but one thing when I make myself it is okay when my great aunt, she make for all family really good and the best than I make lol.
