Pan con queso (This is not a sandwich: bread with cheese)

What happen if you mix a french ingredient with peruvian style? you get wonders. This is a fast and easy alternative to the cakes. You’ll only need bread, butter, gruyère and eggs to prepare this delicious bread with cheese. Enjoy it! This recipe is for 6 people.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons of butter
  • 12 slices of bread
  • 12 slices of gruyère cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of corn starch
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Preparation:

Spread the slices of bread -both sides- with butter (you’ll use 2 tablespoons of bread, more or less). Grease a tin with 2 tablespoons of butter and put them here. Take the cheese and put a slice over each one.

Beat the egg yolks with te corn starch, 1 tablespoons of melted butter, salt and pepper. Then beat the egg whites to form peaks with a little of nutmeg. Mix with the beaten yolks.

Pour this mix over the bread and bake it in a hot oven for 20 minutes (190º C, 380º F). Serve immediately.
